Preparing for SkinPen Microneedling

If you’ve booked your SkinPen microneedling appointment, first of all, we love that for you. Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments for improving skin texture, stimulating collagen, softening fine lines, and giving your skin that healthy, refreshed glow. While the treatment itself does a lot of the work, how you prepare your skin beforehand plays an important role in getting the best possible results.

The good news is preparation is simple and easy. Think of it as setting your skin up for success.

In the week leading up to your appointment, focus on keeping your skin healthy and hydrated. Drink plenty of water and maintain a simple, gentle skincare routine. We recommend using Revision Skincare Gentle Foaming Cleanser and HA HydraSerum+ before and after treatment. Avoid introducing any new skincare products right before your treatment, especially anything that may irritate the skin. Your skin loves consistency, and keeping things calm and balanced helps ensure it responds beautifully to microneedling.

About five to seven days before your appointment, pause the use of stronger exfoliating products such as retinoids, tretinoin, retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or other medical-grade exfoliants unless otherwise directed. These ingredients are wonderful for your skin normally, but we want your skin barrier to be relaxed and happy before treatment day.

It’s also best to avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning leading up to your appointment. SkinPen works best on skin that is healthy and not irritated or sunburned. If you are spending time outside, be diligent with SPF and protective skincare.

For a few days prior to treatment, try to avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or other blood-thinning supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, or ginkgo unless they are medically necessary and prescribed by your physician. These can increase the likelihood of bruising or prolonged redness.

On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean skin. Skip makeup, lotions, and active skincare products if possible. Your provider will cleanse the skin thoroughly before treatment, but coming in fresh-faced makes the process even smoother. And don’t worry, we’ll walk you through everything once you arrive so you feel completely comfortable and confident before we begin.

One of the things clients love most about SkinPen microneedling is that it works with your body’s natural healing process to stimulate collagen and regenerate healthier skin. At On Brand Aesthetics, we take it a step further by pairing SkinPen with intentional post-treatment care to support recovery and enhance results. This includes hydrating serums and calming, Biocellulose masks designed to help your skin repair and glow.

Most importantly, come excited. Microneedling is one of those treatments where your skin just keeps getting better over time as collagen rebuilds beneath the surface. Think of it as an investment in the future of your skin.

We can’t wait to treat you and help you experience the benefits of SkinPen microneedling. If you ever have questions before your appointment, our team at On Brand Aesthetics is always here to guide you every step of the way. Your best skin starts with great preparation, and we’re here to make the entire experience seamless, safe, and beautifully On Brand.
